Great Business Ideas Deserve a Results Driven Marketing Website

Last week I attended a business meeting where a high technology business presented their products and services. The presentation was short and low key but the technology was state of the art and in the opinion of most right on the mark and ready to explode on the consumer and commercial markets.
I was so impressed that I though to myself this would be a great opportunity for me to be involved in some manner, perhaps in creating an affiliate marketing program for them such that I could earn residual income while they and others could benefit as well in the long run.
So I went to their website and, well, I was less than impressed for a number of reasons. It was a Flash site which took too long to load. The home page was a “look at me” page. The navigation was awkward. The videos we non-informative. The pictures told no story. In fact the website itself told no story that a visitor would find compelling, despite the fact that the results of their technology were full of real benefits.
To quote the titles of some of my favorite books, the website did not adhere to the key elements being, “Don’t Make Me Think”, “What’s In It for Me?” and “Call to Action.” If a website does not quickly let me know how it can benefit me and what I have to do next then most of us are off to the races looking at something else on the net. This website failed miserably, but it did not have to be that way.
While I do not know exactly how this website was created, I can make a guess that it was probably a well intentioned committee and graphic designed, rather than an experienced internet marketing director.
In the posts to come we will look at various elements of website creation design for effective marketing results, most importantly lead capture and sales results. I am hoping we can look at this specific example of a ineffective website and show them and you how to have a great business idea married to an effective results driven marketing website.
